Day 1 & 2

Arrival and Introduction to Lake Turkana Culture

Day 1 – Nairobi to Lodwar, Eliye Springs, Lake Turkana:
Start your journey with a morning flight from Nairobi to Lodwar. Upon arrival, you will be met by a representative and driven to Eliye Springs, a serene retreat on the shores of Lake Turkana. Spend your first few hours relaxing at the beach, soaking in the tranquility of this remote paradise. In the late afternoon, visit the fishing village of Longelech where you’ll witness traditional “shore” fishing techniques practiced by the Turkana people. Return to your lodge for a delightful dinner and overnight stay, immersed in the local culture.

Day 2 – Nariokotome (Turkana Boy):
After an early breakfast, head north along the lake to explore the cultural and historical treasures of the Turkana region. Visit a traditional Turkana village and experience their unique way of life. Continue to the famous Nariokotome excavation site where the Turkana Boy, a nearly complete hominid skeleton, was discovered. Learn from local guides about the importance of this landmark archaeological find. After a fulfilling day, return to Eliye Springs for dinner and a restful overnight.

Day 3 – Central Island National Park:
Set out on an exciting morning adventure after breakfast with a motorboat ride to Central Island National Park, one of Lake Turkana’s three volcanic islands. Explore the island’s unique wildlife, stunning volcanic landscapes, and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the pristine environment. Return to Eliye Springs in the afternoon, or for the more adventurous, spend the evening under the stars on Central Island in a “star bed” for an unforgettable nature experience. This optional overnight offers an incredible opportunity to connect with nature in one of Africa’s most remote locations.

Day 4 – Beach Day at Eliye Springs:
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely day at Eliye Springs. You can either take a morning bird-watching tour on Central Island before returning by boat or relax on the sandy beach. The day is yours to unwind and immerse in the serenity of Lake Turkana’s shores. In the evening, the resort hosts a special “Turkana Night” with traditional dances and songs around the campfire, providing a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Turkana people.
