This itinerary offers an adventurous experience through some of Uganda's most iconic wildlife destinations. You'll start with a long scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where you'll embark on a thrilling trek to see the endangered mountain gorillas, a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. From there, you'll travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through the Ishasha sector to spot the rare tree-climbing lions. The itinerary includes an exciting game drive and a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, offering close-up views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife. Your journey concludes with chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge before returning to Kampala.

Day 1 - 2

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

  • Morning Departure: You will depart early in the morning for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its dense rainforest and diverse wildlife.
  • Lunch En-route: A stop for lunch will be made along the journey, which takes approximately 9-10 hours.
  • Arrival: Arrive in Bwindi by evening, where you’ll prepare for the following day’s trek.
  • Accommodation: Overnight at a lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

  • Morning Briefing: After breakfast, you will attend a mandatory briefing with a Ranger-guide, who will provide instructions and safety protocols for the trek.
  • Mountain Gorilla Trek: Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime trek through Bwindi’s dense jungle in search of the endangered Mountain Gorillas. The trek can take anywhere from a few hours to the whole day, depending on the gorilla family’s location.
  • Packed Lunch: You will carry a packed lunch as you explore the forest, and enjoy it during the trek.
  • Return to Lodge: After the unforgettable experience of encountering the gorillas, you will return to your lodge to relax and reflect on the day’s adventure.
  • Accommodation: Overnight at the same lodge in Bwindi.

Day 3: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park (via Ishasha Sector)

  • Morning Departure: After breakfast, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, traveling through the Ishasha sector, which is famous for its tree-climbing lions. The journey will take around 5 hours.
  • Lunch: You may stop for lunch en route or upon arrival at the park.
  • Tree-Climbing Lions: Keep an eye out for the remarkable sight of lions lounging in fig trees during your drive through Ishasha.
  • Evening Game Drive: Upon reaching Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will go on an evening game drive, offering a chance to spot wildlife such as elephants, buffalo, and various antelope species as they emerge in the cooler hours.
  • Accommodation: Overnight at a lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 4: Exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park

  • Morning Game Drive: Start your day with a morning game drive, where you’ll witness the sunrise over the savannah and spot more wildlife in the park’s diverse ecosystems, from open plains to dense forests.
  • Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise: In the afternoon, you’ll take a boat cruise along the 33km Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. This cruise provides excellent views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a variety of birds, including kingfishers, pelicans, and fish eagles, along the banks of the channel.
  • Accommodation: Return to your lodge for the night in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Kyambura Gorge and Departure

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking and Return to Kampala

  • Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge: In the morning, you will visit Kyambura Gorge, a lush riverine forest located in Queen Elizabeth National Park, for an exciting chimpanzee tracking experience. Kyambura Gorge is often referred to as the “Valley of Apes” and offers a unique chance to see chimpanzees in their natural habitat.
  • Lunch En-route: After the chimpanzee trek, you will begin your return journey to Kampala with lunch en route.
  • Return to Kampala: You’ll arrive back in Kampala in the evening, marking the end of your adventure.
  • Departure: Depending on your flight schedule, you may transfer to the airport for your homeward-bound journey.
