A one or two-day excursion to Soysambu Conservancy offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich biodiversity and conservation efforts in Kenya's Great Rift Valley. Visitors can explore Lake Elmenteita, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its flamingos, Great White Pelicans, and endangered Rothschild’s giraffes. The conservancy also hosts ecological monitoring projects, including giraffe studies, lion collaring, and hyena tracking. Additionally, guests can learn about Soysambu’s history as a productive cattle ranch, joining in livestock activities such as branding and boma management. This immersive experience combines wildlife conservation and sustainable farming, offering a deeper understanding of Kenya's wildlife heritage and agricultural practices.

Morning Wildlife and Conservation Activities

Upon arrival at Soysambu Conservancy, you will begin your day with a guided ecological monitoring tour. This includes a visit to observe the Rothschild’s giraffe population and participate in giraffe studies or lion collaring activities, where you'll learn about the tracking process and the role it plays in conservation. You can also track spotted hyenas or other wildlife such as Colobus monkeys, buffalo, and gazelles. Additionally, bird enthusiasts can enjoy birdwatching around Lake Elementeita, famous for its flamingos and Great White Pelican breeding colonies.
After a mid-day meal, you will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the conservancy’s research projects. Join the Field Study and Research Department for further insights on habitat monitoring or participate in cattle ranching activities, such as branding cows or counting livestock in the bomas. Learn about the historical and modern aspects of livestock farming on Soysambu, which remains an integral part of the conservancy's income. Additionally, you can embark on a game drive, experiencing the diverse wildlife roaming the open plains and acacia woodlands.

As the day winds down, you can choose from several optional activities to enhance your Soysambu experience. Explore the conservancy on a camel trek, enjoy a horseback ride through the landscape, or join a motorcycle safari for an exhilarating adventure. For those with an interest in culture, you can also opt for a Turkana cultural night, enjoying traditional dances and songs. Finish your day by the lake, enjoying a sundowner boat ride as you take in the peaceful beauty of Lake Elementeita and its surrounding wildlife.
