Days 1 - 3

Diani Beach Adventures

  • Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation

    • Arrive in Mombasa and transfer to Diani Beach.
    • Check in at Funzi Keys for a relaxing day at the beach, enjoying the serene coastal environment.
  • Day 2: Cultural Immersion in Ukunda

    • Begin your day by visiting a local market in Ukunda, where you’ll experience the art of bargaining and sample local foods.
    • Engage with Giriama and Digo drummers, learning the basics of drumming and creating music together.
    • Later, visit a local bush doctor, who will explain the medicinal uses of various plants and herbs native to Kenya. After the tour, return to Funzi Keys for the night.
  • Day 3: Marine Exploration at Wasini Island

    • Early departure to Wasini Island, about a 100 km drive along the Mombasa – Lunga Lunga highway.
    • Board a traditional Arabic dhow to search for dolphins and sail to Kisite Marine National Park, where you’ll snorkel and swim in the crystal-clear waters.
    • Enjoy lunch with a focus on seafood and Swahili dishes in Wasini, followed by an exploration of Swahili and Arab history at Wasini Island, learning about the Arab slave trade and intermarriage with coastal Bantus.
    • Return to your hotel in the evening.
  • Day 4: Historical Journey from Mombasa to Watamu

    • Start with a visit to the Indian Temple and the iconic elephant tusks along Moi Avenue, learning about their colonial-era history.
    • Explore Fort Jesus, an ancient Portuguese stronghold, and the narrow streets of Mombasa’s Old Town, with stops at the old harbor and Mahindry Mosque.
    • Visit local markets to discover Kenyan spices, fruits, and vegetables, before proceeding to Kilifi for a break at Wild Living Café, known for its eco-friendly culture and artisans.
    • In the late afternoon, arrive in Watamu, a peaceful village on Kenya’s coast, renowned for its natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere. Stay at Geko Resort.
  • Day 5: Discover Malindi and Gede

    • Visit Malindi’s historic landmarks, including the Vasco da Gama Pillar and ancient local architecture.
    • Explore Mida Creek, home to diverse bird species and mangrove forests, before heading to the ruins of the Gedi Swahili town, learning about its archaeological significance and indigenous plant life.
    • End the day at Watamu Snake Farm, where you can view the largest collection of snakes in East Africa.
  • Day 6: Explore Hell’s Kitchen

    • Spend your morning leisurely along the beautiful beaches of Watamu.
    • In the afternoon, head to the Marafa Depression, also known as Hell’s Kitchen. This sandstone canyon is famous for its striking geological formations and high temperatures, with a magical sundowner view over the landscape.

  • Days 7 – 9: Lamu Island Exploration

    • Take a short flight from Malindi to Lamu Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest Swahili town in East Africa.
    • Experience the lively activity of Lamu Town with its narrow, donkey-wide streets, the bustle of the waterfront, and the aromas of local cuisine. Explore traditional Swahili architecture, meet locals, and soak in the unique cultural blend of Arab, African, and colonial influences.
    • Stay at Kizingo Eco Lodge, and enjoy eco-friendly activities in the area.
  • Day 10: Departure

    • Take a short flight from Lamu back to Mombasa for your international flight, concluding your Kenyan adventure.
