Arrival and Initial Relaxation

Day 1 – Arrival in Mombasa: Upon your arrival at Mombasa, you will be greeted and driven southwards to Diani Beach, an area known for its 17 km stretch of pristine beach, coral reefs, and a blend of coastal flora and fauna. The drive gives you a preview of Diani, from its crystal-clear water with shallow sandbars to its lush inland covered in palm trees. The area’s attractions include the 16th-century Kongo Mosque and its rich history linked to the Swahili culture and Arab influence. Diani is also a hub for water sports such as kitesurfing and snorkeling, and it has restaurants, shops, and hotels offering various amenities.

Day 2 – Day of Leisure: This day is designed for pure relaxation. You can unwind on the beautiful beach, explore beach bars like Nomads or Pallet Café, or even enjoy a bike ride along the coastal roads. Sundowners by the Kongo River or peaceful strolls along the shore will introduce you to the serenity of the Diani Beach lifestyle.

Day 3 – Excursions to Wasini Island or Funzi Island: You have the choice between two full-day island adventures:

  • Wasini Island: You will be picked up at 7:00 am for a journey to Shimoni, where you will board an Arabic dhow and sail through the Kisite Marine National Park. The park is famous for snorkeling, marine life, and dolphin sightings. The park is home to vibrant coral reefs, sea turtles, and diverse marine species. Lunch will be a traditional seafood meal at Wasini Island, followed by a cultural tour exploring the Swahili people and their rich history. You’ll return to your hotel around 4:00 pm.

  • Funzi Island: Alternatively, you could visit Funzi Island, known for its pristine mangroves and wildlife. This excursion offers a more relaxed day featuring a boat ride through the mangroves, a crocodile watch at the Ramisi River, and time for snorkeling on the Funzi sandbanks. You’ll also get to visit a local village to engage with the Funzi islanders and learn about their culture. This excursion also promises a day full of marine exploration and tranquility.
