At Adventure Expeditions we are committed to carbon-free travel. By committing to carbon-free travel, we are taking a decisive step toward a sustainable future, where every safari journey contributes to preserving the environment for future generations.
On average, a Kenya Safari covers between 1200km to 1400km over a 6 to 7-day period, emitting about 500kg - 600kg CO2. Planting just one tree can offset this amount of CO2. However one also needs to factor in the carbon footprint of the flight from home, such as Europe. A flight from Europe to Nairobi will produce around 4,000kg of CO2. This can be offset by planting 9 trees per flight. This means that for an average safari holiday to Kenya, our clients should plant 19 trees to offset their carbon footprint!
At Adventure Expeditions we have found an easy way to do this that is also fun! We offset the round-trip travel by providing a bag of seed balls for every guest on our trips. Each small bag of seed balls contains 12 – 15 seeds. Our guests are encouraged to throw the balls out in areas where regenerating forest cover is needed. The seeds sprout during the rains and form part of the reforestation of impacted regions.
In addition, the Adventure Expeditions team physically plants a tree for each safari departure per safari vehicle. We are also in the process of being Travelife Certified as we move towards our other sustainability goals. In effect, we are one of the first carbon-neutral safari providers in Kenya! We urge you to share in our vision of a world where travel enhances human connections to the natural world and other cultures without compromising the health of our planet.
